Big Easy Does It

New Orleans yuckster relies on newscasts, gossip for material.

Rahn Ramey has been a busy dude in front of his TV and on the phone lately. Every time the comic turns on the tube or talks to a family member, he's overloaded with new jokes for the upcoming election year. "You know it's bad when a chick that gives cooking tips — Oprah — has the power to get somebody elected. It's ludicrous, and I'm pissed," gripes Ramey, who's in town tonight for a show in the Flats. "And I complain about this Katrina crap, where I lost everything, and I'm being told it's my fault for living there."Then there's his other favorite target: O.J. Simpson. If the Juice's 1995 acquittal on murder charges wasn't enough, his latest scuffle with the law only fuels Ramey's arsenal. And, he says, public reaction to charges that Simpson helped steal his football memorabilia from a Vegas dealer speaks volumes. "That week — when O.J. got re-arrested — I've never seen white people so happy in my life," he says. "I'm just hoping that there's enough leniency that, if I ever make a mistake, they'll be kind to me." Ramey goes on at 7 tonight at the Improv, 2000 Sycamore Street on the West Bank of the Flats. Tickets are $10 to $16. Call 216-696-4677 or visit www.clevelandimprov.com.
