Nude Awakening

Clothes are so yesterday, says photog. And he's hiring!

A little T&A has become standard fare on the runways of New York, Paris, and Milan. But photographer Joe Katonka takes it a few steps further by exposing bare-breasted goddesses in fishnet stockings in his new exhibit, The Other Side. The collection of more than 20 digital snaps took him a year to assemble. "It's very edgy — definitely an R-rated show — but there's nothing crude about it," says Katonka. "People who view my show will either say, 'It was pretty cool' or 'That guy has some serious issues.'" The display mirrors Katonka's love affair with fashion, portrayed in a portfolio of editorial spreads and commercial work. His ambition is to shoot the cover of Vogue one day. And he's looking for 100 Northeast Ohio babes to pose nude for an upcoming portrait series. "The line between fine art and fashion is no longer discernible. I like asking a question through an image and getting into someone's thoughts," says Katonka. "I don't shoot a lot of mountains and pretty flowers. I prefer to disturb and raise those eyebrows." The exhibit's opening reception is from 6 to 9 tonight, with viewings from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays, through Saturday, February 23, at the Arch Gallery, 21562 Lorain Road in Fairview Park.
