Men may be skeptical when their ladies drag them to ghost-hunting parties. But give them some cool paranormal-tracking gadgets — especially ones with flashing red and green lights — and they'll be ready to hunt down spirits at Dinner & a Ghost in Canal Fulton. "The guys like it because it has a little bit of a science base to it," says organizer Sherri Brake-Recco.To get your spook on, the search starts with rumors of ghosts at Sisters Century House, which has been home to a salon, general store, mortuary, and restaurant since being built in the 19th century. After Brake-Recco gives some background on Irish and Scottish banshees, she hands out divining rods and electromagnetic-field detectors to agitate the ghosts. Afterward, everyone sits down for dinner, dessert, and, if everything works out, a few hair-raising stories. "People have seen shadows in the building. We've had people who've had their hair played with," she says. "We do have people send us photographs of things they can't explain."Because of some people's doubts about ghostbusters, believers need to keep a grounded attitude. "We're teaching people that there are sometimes unanswered questions," says Brake-Recco. "We tell them why the building might be haunted and let them find out for themselves." The action starts at 7 tonight at Sisters Century House, 123 South Canal Street in Canal Fulton. Tickets are $40. Call 330-412-6114 or visit www.hauntedhistory.net.
