This Kent-Cleveland sextet's record label stands for "Feel the funk." No surprise. The band used to be called 1959, but 1979 is more like it, since its music is a throwback to the days when you could really get down. The group's full-length debut is loaded with real-deal soul-funk-rock. Winslow's jams are so smooth, it even got P-Funk's Bernie Worrell to play keys in the gooey-groovy "Move On." A loose guitar echoes through the misty sax solo in "Control," a smoldering tune that defies listeners — whether they're K-Rock fans in hoodies or Z-107 supporters sporting suits — not to dance.
