This Bud's For You

Cleveland's zoo is busting out all over with everything floral.

Though you likely appreciate the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo's animals, Sue Allen suspects that you've probably ignored its plant life. But not after today's ZooBlooms, where flowers, shrubs and trees take center stage in a daylong show of tours, crafts, and gardening workshops, given by the parks' botanists and horticulturists. "Feel free to pick the brains of the experts," says Allen, the zoo's spokeswoman. "Most of them would be more than happy to explain all things green to curious folks."Train tours will rumble past 24 specialty gardens as guides point out exotic vines and summer florals on 168 acres. Spectators can also check out organic-herb lectures, to help fill their kitchens with fresh flavors. Budding chefs and amateur gardeners can then sit in on workshops on organic gardening, composting, recycling, and ornamental-herb care. "We try to make things as simple as possible, so people can do them on their own," says Allen. "Everything you can experience today, you can apply to your daily life." Find out for yourself from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, 3900 Wildlife Way. Admission is $10 ($6 for kids). Call 216-661-6500 or visit
