Mills, who is of Australian descent, was shooting free throws when Twitter user Zandra Ashley captured a fan shouting derogatory remarks on the nationally televised (ABC) broadcast. "Jamaican Dog, they want their bobsledder back," the fan can be heard shouting. "Hey Mills! Jamaica just called, they want their bobsledder back."
Patty Mills thanked Ashley for bringing the video to his attention Sunday night and hoped that publicizing the slur might "enlighten this confused, hateful fan."@KingJames am I the only one who heard this guy in the crowd yell βhey Jamaican dog they want their bobsledder back! Thanks @thats_Z_Truth. I am a proud Islander. Like my Jamaican Brothers, me & my family in the islands of the Torres Strait have experienced racial slurs for decades. Hope your efforts will enlighten this confused, hateful fan. #BlackHistoryMonth https://t.co/yH3nKlGv4A
