Money Where Your Mouth Is: All Smiles

The Scene Music Department stayed up late to watch the game, and now they're out of the office, burning copies of The Departed. Instead of raving up All Smiles -- the mellow indie-rock solo project from ex-Grandaddy guitarist Jim Fairchild -- they'll just the singer do it. But you should know that he deserves better. Band: All Smiles Hometown: "Modesto,CA, via Portland, OR, by way of Los Angeles, CA detoured by Chicago, IL." Sounds like: "Indian Summer leaves falling on late October days. Set to music." Recommend for fans of: "Some say it's a little Elliott Smith, and some John Lennon." Fun fact: "Since I am the only member of the band, and likewise with David Bazan's solo outift, I can say that everybody in our two bands once worked at Skip's Music in Modesto, California." Playing: Wednesday, October 24 at the Grog Shop (2785 Euclid Hts. Blvd., 215-321-5588), with Pedro the Lion's David Bazan. Why you need to see him: "I may not have such a nice haircut next year." -- Jim Fairchild, guitar and singing.
