Ex-C-town radio star pens 9-11 tribute

Just in time for the sixth anniversary of 9-11, ex-Cleveland radio newscaster Carol Hoffman and her 28-year-old daughter, Carly, have teamed up to write, produce, and publish the anthem-like “Everyday Heroes.” But don’t label it “just a 9-11 song.” “It’s a patriotic song written out of gratitude,” says Hoffman, who graced the airwaves as “Tracy St. John” on the old WLTF-FM 106.5 and WWWE-AM 1100 during the ‘80s and ‘90s. “I hope the song speaks to all generations and to those who serve others.” Hoffman completed the lyrics about soldiers, cops, firefighters, and their families in January. Carly – a nightclub singer who’s also performed at Cincinnati’s Kings Island amusement park www.pki.com – then set the words to music and recorded back-up vocals at the Songwriter’s Studio in Nashville in the spring. A couple months later, owner Gary Schermaier of GMAN Studio in Cleveland recorded and mixed her main vocal track to meet the 9-11 deadline. “Having worked in broadcasting, I know that news comes and goes,” says Hoffman. “We want the song to be a source of comfort and encouragement to those who feel forgotten, and to honor courage, bravery, and sacrifice every time it’s played, not just on 9-11.” Click here to hear the song. -- Cris Glaser
