After an extended run at Weathervane Playhouse, Lady Day, a play that features Akron native Marissa Davis as jazz singer Billie Holiday, will come to the Underground at the Holy Trinity Cultural Arts Center for a ten-day run later this month.
The play, which features Cleveland musicians Ed Ridley and Bradford McGhee, opens on March 15 and runs through March 25.
The Underground, the company's theatrical venue, will be transformed into Emerson's Bar and Grill, the place that hosted one of Holiday's last performances in 1959 just months before her death.
"It was an amazing experience directing this heart wrenching but wonderful play at Weathervane Playhouse" says director Terrence Spivey in a press release announcing the performances. "There were constant sell-outs and standing ovations accompanied with great reviews. I spoke to Pastor Clark and told him, we must bring this show to Cleveland to honor Women's History Month in March!"
Showtimes for Thursday through Saturday night performance will be at 7:30. Matinee performances will take place at 3 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets start at $20.
