The Akron Art Museum’s 25th annual Downtown @ Dusk free summer concert series kicked off last week and will continue for another seven weeks through August 27.
From 6:30-8:30 each Thursday on the museum’s terrace, a local band plays with an expert will giving an art talk between sets (7:30-7:45) and family art-making activities to keep the kids busy. Refreshments will be available for purchase, and the galleries are open with regular admission ($7 adults, $5 students and seniors, free 12 and under).
This Thursday, Carlos Jones and the PLUS Band will play, and University of Akron art professor Laura Gelfand will talk about the role of the dog in art history. Presumably, she’ll talk about paintings of dogs, not paintings by dogs. The whole shebang moves indoors to the museum’s lobby if the weather is threatening.
Subsequent weeks will feature the Numbers Band, Alex Bevan, Horns and Things, the Roberto Ocasio Latin Jazz Project, T-Condo and Robin Stone. Go here for more info. —Anastasia Pantsios
