Kevin Neudecker and Melanie Hershberger opened the doors of their independent music store Music Saves (15801 Waterloo Rd., 216.481.1875) on July 17, 2004. Despite Northeast Ohio’s poor economy and seismic changes in how consumers access music, they’ve hung in and adapted, greatly expanding their selection of new vinyl as the format made a resurgence. (They also made another “vinyl” expansion with the store’s black cat, who’s named Vinyl.) And keeping mid-afternoon to late-evening hours, they’ve catered to concertgoers at the nearby Beachland. Today, Music Saves celebrates its “Store-A-Versary,” starting at 7 p.m. with an in-store concert by Brent Knopf of Portland, Oregon’s Menomena. He’s got a debut CD by his side project Ramona Falls coming on August 18 (and the group will be at the Beachland in September); you can get a sample at Music Saves today. Then, following the 9 p.m. Veils/Foreign Born/Faces on Film show at the Beachland Tavern (15711 Waterloo Rd.), members of the Veils — featuring Finn Andrews, the son of XTC’s Barry Andrews — will take over as guest DJs at a free midnight party hosted by the store. — Anastasia Pantsios
