8/8: Temporality at Brandt Gallery

There’s an inescapable relationship between film and time. Whether it’s a movie, a photo or video, shooting something with a camera extracts it from the passage of time, so the moment can be revisited again and again or put aside for later. In her new show Temporality, artist and educator Cynthia Penter explores time, the elements and women with a collection of film, video loops and photos. “I was thinking of these moving images as creating a sort of museum honoring the temporality of the Earth itself as embodied in the motif of women and the elements,” writes the artist. Your last chance to see her show is at today’s closing reception from 5-9 p.m. at Brandt Gallery (1028 Kenilworth Ave., 216.621.1610). It’s free. — Michael Gill
