Sean Scolnick always had dreams of moving to New York City to become a famous singer, and he figured a good nickname was the first step. So the Langhorne, Pennsylvania, native adopted the name of his hometown and set out to conquer the Big Apple’s open-mic nights. The moniker stuck, even as Scolnick outgrew coffeehouses and got his own band. The quartet is now on the road playing songs from Langhorne Slim’s new album, Be Set Free, which is filled with personal lyrics and a lush soundscape of intricate finger picking and ass-shaking jigs. “These guys are really badass players, and they bring in their own style,” says Scolnick. “Their parts make the songs our own, through each one of us making it individually our own.
