Today, a new public art initiative kicks off in Cleveland's Buckeye-Shaker and Mt. Pleasant neighborhoods. LAND Studio has started Inner City Hues, a program which has selected local artists to brighten these neighborhoods through murals.
The whole project starts with a free Meet the Artists event tonight from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Zelma George Recreation Center.
The artists selected to make the murals include:
-Graphic artist Kevin “mr.soul” Hart.
-Acerbic, an artistic group which includes Ali McClain, Donald Black Jr. and Gabriel Gonzalez.
-Shooting Without Bullets, an organization that works with youth to combat social injustice through art and photography
-Multifaceted artist Derin Fletcher.
The party tonight is more of an informal event, with more in-depth conversations held in May and June with residents and artists. Expect another party at the end of the summer celebrating the completion of all four of the murals.
