1/15: Resist at Peabody's

Blame it on the harsh, snow-clogged winters or the decaying remains of the Rust Belt’s once-thriving industry, but Cleveland has a knack for spawning metal and hardcore bands. For nearly a decade, Resist have been one of those dark and bludgeoning groups that calls the North Coast home. Following in the footsteps of forefathers like Ringworm, Resist blur the lines between metal and hardcore punk. On their latest work, chugging guitars and stampeding drums give way to rock grooves and crushing breakdowns, showing that these guys have influences spanning the heavy-music spectrum. One listen reveals everything from bits of vintage New York hardcore to the crisp sounds of modern-day metalcore. It’s a sound that shows these guys are true fans of all things heavy. Lost Chapter, Heavyweight and Konipshun Phit open their show at Peabody’s (2045 E. 21st St., 216.776.9999), starting at 7 p.m. Tickets: $6. — Matt Whelihan
