Andrew Dorogi, the University School alum who died on a spring break trip to Mexico in March, was murdered, according to his family.

A spokeswoman for the family told the Boston Globe that Andrew Dorogi, the 21-year-old Amherst Senior, was killed while traveling home from Cabo San Lucas. Little had been made public about the investigation into Dorogi's death. This is the first comment from the family, and the spokeswoman said that they would have no further comment, in light of the ongoing investigation.

Amherst College president Carolyn "Biddy" Martin sent a letter to the Amherst community shortly after Dorogi's death. At the time, she said that Dorogi did not commit suicide, but little else was known.

“The cause of Andrew’s death is still unknown and under investigation,” she wrote. “We know from his family that he did not die of suicide. Andrew was loved for his friendliness, joyfulness, sense of fun, and inclusiveness, and we will create an opportunity on campus to come together in his memory.”
