Up for Grabs: Another Free Smashing Pumpkins Song

If you haven't heard, Billy Corgan is putting together a new Smashing Pumpkins album, and he's releasing the album's 44 songs as a series of free downloads.

The second song, "Widow Wake My Mind," is out today.

And unlike the first track, "A Song for a Son" (which was released last month), it doesn't completely suck. But it's not very good either.

The album, Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, according to Corgan, “is based on ‘The Fool’s Journey,’ as signified in the progress of the Tarot, the intention is to approach the work by breaking down the journey of life into four phases as made by different characters depicted in major arcana cards: the Child, the Fool, the Skeptic and the Mystic.”

Whatever. I kinda wish Corgan would just go away.

The Pumpkins' last album, 2007's Zeitgeist, brought Corgan back to the band that launched his career. But that album, like the new music, is pretty much a Corgan solo record released under the Pumpkins' moniker.

For purists, Teargarden by Kaleidyscope will eventually be released as 11 limited-edition four-song EPs. But most people will be happy picking up the free downloads as they show up (which, at this rate, should net you the entire album in about four years).

"Widow Make My Mind" is available as a free download for the next 24 hours on MySpace. Then you can find it on the band's website.
