2/4: Missy Raines & the New Hip at Kent Stage

Though some people classify bassist Missy Raines as bluegrass, her debut album as a bandleader, Inside Out, includes many different genres, including country, jazz and folk. The title track shows off her impeccable improvisational skills, while “Pootie Tang” and “In Over Your Head” recall Bonnie Raitt with a dobro. Raines, who used to play with the Claire Lynch Front Porch Band, has won the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Bassist of the Year award seven times. You can hear some of that hot fret action when Missy Raines & the New Hip play the Kent Stage (175 E. Main St., Kent, 330.677.5005) at 8 p.m. Tickets: $15. — Ernest Barteldes
