Jazz fans have something worth leaving the house for on a Monday evening.
One of Cleveland’s top jazzmen, internationally acclaimed sax player Ernie Krivda — known for playing in a multitude of formats and settings — will take over Nighttown’s stage on Monday with a group of equally formidable talents — three musicians from Michigan he’s dubbed “the Detroit Connection.”
Bebop pianist Claude Black, acoustic bassist Marion Hayden and drummer Renell Gonsolves — three of Detroit’s top jazz players — played their first Cleveland show with Krivda during last year’s Tri-C Jazzfest.
As if that weren’t enough musical firepower, they’ll be joined by young trumpeter Dominick Farinacci, a Cleveland native now based in New York, where he’s pursuing a world-class jazz career following the release of his first U.S. album Lovers, Tales and Dances.
Ten years ago, when he was only 16, he got his first professional band experience playing with Krivda’s Fat Tuesday Band. The two still unite from time to time to play shows. While the musicians are assembled in Cleveland, they’re planning to go into the studio to record/videotape a performance for a future CD/DVD release.
