2/20: Just Beyond the Stars at Breen Center

Peter Pan had a strong run in the ’50s, starting the decade with Leonard Bernstein’s Broadway adaptation of J.M. Barrie’s 1904 play and running through Walt Disney’s 1953 animated film. Mary Martin’s Tony- and Emmy-winning performance as the Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up defined the character for generations. More than 40 years later, George Stiles and Anthony Drewe — the composing duo who worked magic with a 2004 version of Mary Poppins — reworked Peter Pan for new theater audiences. Mercury Summer Stock Theatre gives a staged reading of the play as part of the Just Beyond the Stars benefit, which supports the theater’s My First Musical program that subsidizes show admission for kids under 12. The event starts at 7:30 p.m. at St. Ignatius High School’s Breen Center (2008 W. 30th St., 216.771.5862). Tickets: $5-$25. — Michael Gill
