As first announced by Deadline, HBO Sports is teaming up with sports columnist, analyst, author, podcaster and Boston fan Bill Simmons for an unscripted hour-long special chronicling the 2018 NBA Finals between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors.
The special titled Courtside at the NBA Finals is set to debut on HBO June 19 at 9 p.m. EST with a repeat at 11 p.m. EST, just days after the conclusion of the 72nd edition of the Finals.
“This show will give our subscribers a first-hand look at the nuances of each victory and defeat," Peter Nelson, executive vice president of HBO Sports, told Deadline. "We are privileged to team up with the NBA and Bill Simmons for this unique presentation.”
The program is attempting to dissect and understand the wins and losses during the final games, as well as offer an up close and personal look into the journeys of each team throughout the series. Given this is the fourth time in a row the Cavs will face the Warriors, there's sure to be fascinating analyses in addition to gameplay.
HBO Sports and Bill Simmons Media Group launched The Ringer in 2015 and recently collaborated on the acclaimed documentary film Andre the Giant, which registered the highest premiere viewership for an HBO Sports documentary in 15 years.
The documentary will also be available on HBOGO and HBO NOW following the special's premiere.
