The American Gaming Association released a study yesterday regarding the revenue and impact of Casino Gaming in Ohio through its Casinos and Communities research team.
The findings debuted during a roundtable discussion at the Miami Valley Gaming racino as part of the association’s “Get to Know Gaming” campaign, which aims to educate local leaders about gambling’s role in 40 states across the country.
The research shows that between Ohio’s 11 commercial gambling sites (four casinos and seven racinos), there are 19,953 jobs provided for Ohioans and $804 million in wages, along with $594 million in taxes paid out each year. In terms of revenue, the study revealed that the gambling spots have provided $3.6 billion in economic activity in Ohio.
This news comes shortly after we reported on Cleveland's JACK Casino experiencing their lowest April numbers, ever. Studies revealed that gaming numbers were up in every commercial gambling site in Ohio, with the exception of JACK. In comparison, JACK Entertainment's Thistledown Racino recently experienced record high revenue numbers.
A 2016 study from WalletHub.com revealed that Ohio is the 17th most gambling addicted state, meaning any decline in revenue might not be all bad news.
Perhaps this will change with the legalization of sports betting, but then again, given Dan Gilbert's ownership stake in both the Cavs and JACK Entertainment, we'll have to settle on placing losing bets for the Cleveland Browns.
