- The Vatican has until Nov. 30 to make its final decision
With the closing of many of Cleveland's Catholic churches now in full effect, many parishioners have been asking for an appeal. One group of activists will be receiving their wish...sort of.
News Channel 5 reports that the Vatican's "Congregation for the Clergy," the group in charge of looking over these appeals, has extended their deadline to make a final decision on St. Patrick's Church until Nov. 30. "Save St. Pat's," the committee that has formed in support of their former church, received a letter from the Congregation alerting them of the extension. St. Patrick's will remained closed during the deliberation.
Members of St. Pat's have still been meeting every Sunday on the front steps of their former church to "pray and discuss their efforts." The extension has given the group a bit of hope that their church can be saved. Save St. Pat's committee member Pat Singleton is one of those hopefuls.
That should mean that the Bishop or the Diocese really can't do anything with the property or the patrimony of our parish and any other parishes who may receive this type of extension letter as well.
