Photographer Karen Novak was a tireless documenter of Cleveland’s booming ’90e underground/club rock scene, amassing photos of countless bands coming through venues like the Euclid Tavern and the Grog Shop.
Last month, her house in North Collinwood’s Waterloo District burned down, and though she was able to salvage a few things, including some of her photos, she lost most of her possessions.
Her many friends in the local music scene are gathering to pay her back for her support over the years with a benefit tonight at the Beachland Ballroom.
The event starts with an art auction from 7 to 9 p.m. with work donated by area artists like Derek Hess, Steve Kasner, and Douglas Max Utter.
After that, Keelhaul, Cobra Verde, the Flat Can Co, and Jukebox Value (a new project for Chris Kulcsar of This Moment in Black History) will play ,and DJ Mr. Fishtruck will spin records.
Admission is $7. All proceeds will go to help Karen replace all the basics she lost. —Anastasia Pantsios
