In your heartbreaking news of the day...

A 4-year-old boy was found alone at E. 28th St. at 10 p.m. last night. According to police, a car with Pennsylvania license plates dropped the child off and then left. After being alerted to the situation by motorists, the child was taken to a social worker.

It was there that the boy said that his mother was lying dead in a garage at a home on Walden Avenue, stabbed to death.

The Plain Dealer reports that police have possible suspects, but no names have been released. From the original PD report:

Motorists found the boy at East 28th Street and Cedar Avenue about 10:18 p.m after a silver Chevy Cobalt with Pennsylvania plates dropped him off, said police spokesman Sgt. Sammy Morris. Police officers took to the boy to county social workers, who interviewed the child, Morris said.

The child told social workers that his mother had been stabbed and was lying in a garage, Morris said. Fourth District officers found the 32-year-old woman in the 17500 block of Walden Avenue, he said.

"She had been stabbed multiple times," Morris said. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, he added.
