It seems no one has snapped a pic of the billboard yet, but Cleveland's continued celebration of LeBron's (oh, and the Heat's) defeat can be found either on I-71 or I-480 with a new "Congratulations Mavericks" billboard that just went up.
While we poo-pooed John Kasich's "honorary Ohioans" decree (parodied and eviscerated by Scene contributor Cleveland Frowns here) as silly, dumb, and lacking self awareness, we don't mind the billboard at all. Kasich is the Governor of Ohio. Whoever paid for this billboard is likely a fan. There's a big difference there. Of course, some, WKNR's Chris Fedor for example, find it embarrassing, probably because they care way too much what people outside of Cleveland think about the city. (Incidentally, for more of Chris Fedor's hard-hitting sports takes, check out this video.)
We'll laugh at LeBron, which is all the billboard is doing. We're entitled to that response, and it fits well within what SI's Joe Posnanski describes as healthy hate for a player. LeBron's merely a character. In this drawn-out "hate the heat" performance, so is Cleveland. No biggie.
