We're all for relaxed dress codes — around here, guidelines basically start and stop at "The shirt you wore last night is fine as long as it doesn't have vomit on it, and you should probably not work in your underwear, but if you do, shut your office door" — but your sartorial choices really depend on your job. Work as a lunch lady? Probably should leave the halter top at home, unless you work at Hooters. You get the point.
Business is business, and when your business is government work, there's a modicum of expectations that come along with the job.
The PD reports today that Fiscal Officer Wade Steen, who started last month, didn't think Cuyahoga County employees were living up to those expectations, so he has instituted a dress code. Explicitly forbidden: shorts. Yes, someone had to tell Cuyahoga County workers not to wear shorts to work.
Only employees in the fiscal office are affected for now, though Ed FitzGerald says it could go county-wide eventually.
