Local Band In Focus

Filmstrip

Meet the Band: Dave Taha (vocals, guitars), Matt Taha (vocals and bass), and Nick Riley (drums)

Same As It Ever Was: Everything Can Change is the title of Filmstrip's only album, but thing is, nothing has changed. Dave and Matt met Nick in grade school in Lakewood and have been making music together for two decades. They started Filmstrip in 2008.

Genre? They Don't Need No Stinking Genre: "We have been described as punk, post-punk, psych, grunge, garage, indie," says Dave. "We like to call ourselves 'futurepunk,' which is newspeak for whatever the hell it is we're doing."

Cleveland Indeed Rocks: "Made entirely by Cleveland, as opposed to in Cleveland, is a subtle but important distinction," says Dave. "We feel like our music reflects our experience, and that experience is very Cleveland."

Seriously, It Does: "We're a band from Cleveland that gives a shit about Cleveland," says Dave. "Did we mention we really, really love Cleveland?"

Why You Should Hear Them: Filmstrip turn out unassuming garage-rock gems. Just wish we knew whether they like Cleveland.
