A Belated Word on WNCR
I was under the assumption that we would trace the station's history which began with WHK-FM and follow the format as it grew ["Rock Hall Panel Revisits WMMS's Past and Speculates About Radio's Future," Scene & Heard blog, August 23, 2012]. I thought I would be able to speak about WNCR, an extremely important station to the history of WMMS, but the conversation never got back to me. So I will say it here: WNCR's format was by far the most innovative, creative radio station this market has ever seen. It was doing "fake news" long before Saturday Night Live, Jon Stewart, Colbert, or The Onion were even an idea. It had "People's Radio," the first male-female DJ team with Jeff and Shauna, and it filled the gap between the original WMMS and the new WMMS with me, Perlich, Spiro, Shauna, and Sanders.

White Wash
Just remember White was part of the team that drove Modell out of Cleveland ["The Plain Dealer Can't Stop Complimenting Former Mayor Mike White, For Some Reason," Scene & Heard blog, August 21, 2012]. Modell had a contract to maintain the old Cleveland Municipal Stadium. He did it with the proceeds from the Indians and special-events rent money. When the Indians were given a new stadium, Modell, knowing he was losing his biggest renter, went to Mayor White-D and the county (with Hagan-D at the helm, Boyle-D, and Petro-R) to ask for $130 million to fix up the 50-year-old stadium. They told him no. Knowing he'd be in financial trouble if he stayed, Modell moved the team. Sad thing is, one year later we paid almost $300 million to build the new Browns Stadium for the current faux Browns, and a few years later that old Browns team won a Super Bowl ... in Baltimore. Thank you White, Hagan, Boyle, and Petro.

The people running this survey are clueless ["Breaking: Ohio University No Longer Nation's Top Party School," Scene & Heard blog, August 20, 2102]. WTF does Princeton know about partying anyway? And who cares what the Ivy League thinks about a subject like that?
