Facebookup: Poletti and Kelly were acquaintances from Baldwin Wallace University when the former contacted the latter on Facebook about forming a band. "I was flattered and thrilled," says Kelly. Vance was brought in for the first practice in 2010, and for weeks they played the only song they had. The quartet now boasts a 30-song catalog.
Deja Vu: The Village Bicycle have been compared to Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young because of their harmonies, but members say their indie-style instrumentation lend them more of a Breeders sound. "It's rock/punk, but with these cool '60s girl-group harmonies happening at the same time," says Poletti.
Self-Diagnosis: Poletti admits that the group's songs "sound a little bit neurotic." "We have a lot of weird structure and contracting sections," she says.
On the Record: The band's self-titled debut, made by their former lineup early in 2011, was released in May. A new album featuring the current roster is now being recorded. "This one is going to be more of a statement of what and who we are," says Kelly.
