Taylor Brynne started modeling three years ago, when a photographer friend asked her to do a "fun photo shoot." The 22-year-old pierced and tattooed Columbus model has since expanded her portfolio to include numerous fashion magazines and rock calendars. She's hosting this weekend's Rockapolooza, a daylong hard rock and rap festival featuring 60 artists, including Machine Gun Kelly, the Devil Wears Prada, Texas in July, Twista, Attack Attack!, and Inspectah Deck.
Have you ever been mistaken for the porn star Brynn Tyler or the DJ Brynn Taylor?
No, but I have been asked if I'm related to Marilyn Monroe because, if I wear my hair and do my makeup a certain way, I look like I could be her sister. I have no relation to her, but I would be honored if I were related to her in some way.
Have you hosted a rock concert before?
>No, so I'm guessing I'll have to interview some of the bands and announce some of them. I'll also just get the crowd pumped up. That I can do. I just have to make sure I watch my language.
What inspired you to get your first tattoo?
I always imagined getting tattooed, ever since I was younger. My uncle is covered head-to-toe in tattoos, so I got accustomed to it. My first tattoo was inspired by my mother, who decided — when I was getting ready to go on spring break — to give me some extra money and told me to get a tattoo if I could find a shop that didn't ID. I wasn't able to get it on spring break, but I got one when I came home. I got a lily with a tribal band on each side. It's on my lower back, so yes, it would be considered a tramp stamp.
Have the tattoos and piercings ever prevented you from getting a modeling job?
No. Surprisingly, they've helped me. There are a lot of photographers who have worked with me, and I wasn't the type of model they normally shot. They saw the work I did, and they wanted to give me a try, and from then on they loved it. There's a photographer I work with who used to never shoot girls with visible tattoos or any kind of piercings. I was the first, and now the majority of people he shoots are girls with tattoos and piercings.
Who's your favorite band on the tour?
There are a few that I'm looking forward to seeing. Machine Gun Kelly is one. I'm super excited to see him. I love his work, and all my girlfriends here are freaking out about it. They want me to get them in, but I can't bring a crew of 30 people. I like Attack Attack! and two local bands from Columbus: ofHuman and Sever.
You're co-hosting with radio personality Shannon Gunz. Her bio says she left behind "an Arizona cow town" for the big city. You live in an Ohio cow town. Do you think you might not get along so well?
We should get along pretty well. I don't judge people before I meet them. After I get a feel for them, I can judge whether or not I'll get along with them. Whether I like a person or not, I can still be professional with them. I could hate someone and still be professional.
I've worked really small events at local bars. I've had to get people to come up and watch local bands. Me and another girl will go onstage and scream to get everyone's attention.
Any chance you have a Prada scarf you can wear just to piss off the guys in the Devil Wears Prada?
No, that might be a bad idea. I don't really want to piss them off.
