This indie rock duo —Rachel Hoskins and her husband, Dave Douglas — often keeps it simple, but it goes for a bigger sound on this five-song EP of Christmas songs. In fact, "We Three Kings" is so anthemic that it sounds like an orchestra and chorus is performing behind the duo. The title track is a little sparser and showcases Hoskins' brittle voice as she evokes Tori Amos. The song starts slow and builds in tempo and magnitude. Hoskins is also in good form on "Bring a Touch," a somber song with a beautiful vocal melody. A short, seemingly impromptu rendition of "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" at the album's end adds a nice personal touch to the proceedings. — Jeff Niesel
