ABC’s of Death

If you're a fan of horror, you've gotta like this film's premise. Each of the 26 different directors that participated was given a letter of the alphabet and asked to pick a word that began with that letter. They were then instructed to create a short film about death that related to that word. Given the concept, it's no surprise that the shorts tend to be quite graphic. Despite the wide range of motifs, nothing here is the least bit tame. Each film offers its own distinctively intense vision and that's what binds this fantastically perverse collection of movies, now available on DVD, together.

Daft Punk

Random Access Memories

This French electro duo’s latest album is its most accessible to date. Expect the catchy single “Get Lucky,” which features guest vocals from Pharrell Williams, to find its way onto commercial radio and become the band’s biggest hit, giving the veteran group some long overdue recognition.

The National

Trouble Will Find Me

While most of the songs on the latest studio release from this Euro-sounding American band are rather down-tempo, the band has always been better in the live setting and you can certainly imagine that the album’s most upbeat tunes — the Nick Cave-like “Demons” and “Don’t Swallow the Cap” will become staples in the live show.
