Cleveland Cinemas will commemorate the lives and works of two lately deceased Hollywood giants with special screenings at the Cedar Lee this month.
Sidney Poitier, the first Black man to win the Academy Award for Best Actor, died last week at the age of 94. Cleveland Cinemas will screen two of his most memorable films on Monday, January 17, Martin Luther King Day.
Lillies of the Field, the 1964 film in which Poitier plays an itinerant worker who encounters a community of East German nuns, and for which Poitier won his Oscar, will be shown at 12:00 pm and 4:55 pm.
The 1967 Best Picture Winner, In The Heat of the Night, in which Poitier plays a Philadelphia police detective mistakenly suspected of a Mississippi murder he is later called upon to investigate, will be shown at 2:20 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.
All screenings are $5 at the Cedar Lee in Cleveland Heights.
Additionally, the Cedar Lee will screen The Last Picture Show, the 1971 Academy Award nominated film directed by Peter Bogdanovich, on Saturday, January 15 at 4:00 pm and Sunday, January 16 at 1:00 pm. The screening is in honor of acclaimed director, writer and performer Bogdanovich, who died last week as well.
