Third Barrio Restaurant to Open in Cleveland's 5th Street Arcades

The 5th Street Arcades, located on Prospect Avenue only feet away from East 4th street, will soon have another dining hot spot in its lineup.

Barrio Restaurant Group and Dick Pace, CEO of Cumberland Development, the management arm of the 5th Street Arcades, confirmed the news that the popular taqueria Barrio will open their third location.

"Barrio will be a great neighborhood restaurant where customers, business owners, hotel guests, and residents can all come to hang out — that’s exactly the kind of activity we want to see here at 5th Street," says Pace.

Barrio, who's local presence is expanding at a steady pace, also has locations in Tremont and Lakewood — “There’s always something going on down here. It’s a great place for people to live and Barrio is all about being a neighborhood destination," says Barrio's operating partner Sean Fairbairn.

The restaurant will fill the retail gap between Red the Steakhouse and Sushi 86 and focus on the live, work, and play aspect of downtown — “Barrio is an affordable, family friendly neighborhood restaurant,” says Fairbairn.

The former Indigo Indian Bistro will undergo a face lift centered around Barrio's standard Day of the Dead-themed design. The 4000 square foot space will hold approximately 160 patrons and feature a 30 seat bar. Temporary outdoor dining will be placed right on Prospect Avenue allowing for perfect people watching.

The Barrio Restaurant Group also has announced the addition of Damon Ginnard as the company's executive chef. Ginnard, a Pennsylvania Culinary Institute grad, had a tenure at Lolita under Michael Symon. Most recently, Ginnard was chef for six years at Momocho under chef/owner Eric Williams. “I’m extremely happy to be part of the Barrio family and excited to take Barrio’s food to the next level,” says Ginnard.

The restaurant’s business hours are customized to attract Gateway residents. Opening Monday - Friday, 4 p.m. - 2:30 a.m. (serving food until 2 a.m.), and weekends 11 a.m. - 2 a.m., the restaurant will also adjust its schedule to open earlier on weekdays for games and events.

The group is aiming to open by the end of July.
