There are currently 10 Kia K900s for sale in Northeast Ohio, via Autotrader.com, and the luxury sedan for which LeBron James is now official ambassador will set you back only $60-$65K.
That may seem like an improbable pill to swallow from an auto manufacturer that also made the Sephia from '92-'03 and has long been the object of ire and ridicule from many an auto-snob, but it's a sick ride, and it remains a heck of a lot more reasonable than an equivalent sedan from the folks at Jaguar, say.
“I was a Kia K900 driver and fan before we decided to become partners, so I’m really excited to be Kia’s first-ever luxury ambassador,” James said in a statement from the South Korean auto company. “Kia and the K900 are out to challenge conventional wisdom and show people how to think differently, and I can relate to that.”
(On the topic of celebrity auto endorsements, we cannot overstate our recommendation of Hunter S. Thompson's 1970 essay, "The Temptations of Jean-Claude Killy")
James was Tweeting about his K900 back in August, and his new scripted sentiments echo a trend in auto partnerships these days where the ambassador announces that he was a fan of the car before they were paid to say so. Lookin' at you McConaughey).
Sales managers at Bill Doraty Kia, Mentor Kia and Halleen Kia were all unavailable for comment this morning, but Sam, a sales manager at Montrose Kia in Sheffield, said that his dealership currently doesn't have any K900s in their inventory — it's a bit of a specialty model. He said he doesn't think they're planning to acquire it anytime soon or that sales strategies will change in any appreciable way.
When asked if they're expecting a sudden increase in local interest because of LeBron's new ambassadorship, he said: "truthfully, I don't know."
