Breakneck Gallery to Close in March; Catch One Last Exhibition Before It Does

Well, it’s official, and it's sad. After attempting a less-than-successful fundraiser on Gofundme.com¸ Lakewood’s Breakneck Gallery has officially announced it will close this March. However, before the doors close, owners Sean and Kristen Burns have one last special show planned.

“It has been a great ride filled with fun shows, amazing artists, and forging great friendships and connections within the art community. We will miss the space and everyone who ever stepped foot in it greatly," say Breakneck owners Sean and Kristen Burns. "We appreciate all of the love and support we have received from our friends, family, artists, and patrons. We set out with a goal to make art more accessible and exciting to those who may not have had a previous interest in art or art shows. In that sense, even though we will be closing our doors, we still feel that was accomplished in the 3+ years we were open and therefore see this experiment into the art business world as a success. That being said, we couldn't just fade away, instead we decided to go out with a BANG!”

Pulp Panel Pin-Ups: A Collection of Comic Book Inspired Pin-Up Art opens with a reception this Saturday, Feb. 21, from 6 to 10 p.m. Carol and John’s Comic Book Shop is sponsoring this final show at Breakneck. Carol and John’s has partnered with Breakneck (and its roster of artists) for numerous events at both Breakneck and Carol & John’s.

“We've decided to provide additional support to Breakneck for their event; providing refreshments, raffles prizes, and two staff members to hang out and peddle DC Bombshell pinup items,” says Carol and John’s owner John Dudas. “It's really emotional for me to see Breakneck go down.”

The show is perfectly timed with Wizard World Cleveland this weekend. Whether you’re into comic books, pin ups or both, you’re sure to find something to love. We'll miss you, Breakneck.

The event is free and open to the public. A free after party (21+) will be held at the Spitfire Saloon (1539 W. 117th St.) immediately following Saturday’s reception.
