Here Are a Few New Bars Around Cleveland to Try

Over the weekend, the Ohio Department of Commerce announced that liquor sales in Ohio have almost surpassed $1 billion this fiscal year, setting a state record and proving, once again, that the Buckeye State sure enjoys hitting the sauce. What's more, the commerce department says that sales in the last few months alone are rivaling numbers typically associated with the high-volume holiday months like November and December.

We Clevelanders would like to think that we're doing our humble part to contribute to these stats, and that could very well be the case. Over the past three months, we've witnessed a bevy of new watering holes emerge and settle in to Cleveland's established drinking scene. In case you missed an opening or two or were out of town on an extended summer holiday, we've rounded up a list of new bars around town worth trying.

Griffin Cider Works

Cleveland's first cider house opened up in Lakewood’s Bird Town neighborhood in July and has already made a name for itself serving hard cider to thirsty customers. “This isn’t just a taproom; it’s a dedicated cider pub that will encompass a lot of different ciders, not just my own,” owner Richard Read told Scene Dining Editor Doug Tratter last month. Big Bang Dueling Piano Bar

Patrons of the old Howl at the Moon may be happy to know that a new dueling piano bar has come to town. The Big Bang, located in the Flats East Bank, provides guests with non-stop live entertainment, a selection of small plates, and dozens of draft beers and cocktails. Pop in at 1163 Front Ave.

Alley Cat Oyster Bar

Meet Zack Bruell's latest concept: Alley Cat Oyster Bar. Located along the Cuyahoga River, guests can expect scenic views while sipping Bruell’s "michelada," a Mexican refresher of beer and spices, and slurping down fresh-shucked oysters. Find it at 1056 Old River Rd.

Tabletop Board Game Café 

For folks craving a relaxed evening of games and drinks, head to Tabletop Cafe in Ohio City. Here, you'll find more than 1,000 unique game titles — everything from Cards Against Humanity to 7 Wonders — plus beer, wine, and sandwiches. Stop by at 1810 W. 25th St.

Club FWD

We might as well mention Club FWD, too, the new Vegas-style pool/nightclub that opened up — with a full bar — a couple of weeks back. Look for back to back weekend events while the weather is still nice, much like this Sunset Pool Party that took place over the weekend. Find them at 1176 Front Ave.
