A second man was sentenced today for playing a role in the overdose death of Russell King Sr., the father of Chardon High School shooting victim Russell King Jr., according to the News-Herald. King died of a heroin overdose on Feb. 27, 2014 — the two-year anniversary of the Chardon High School shooting.
Chad Riffett, 37, pleaded guilty to "attempted corrupting another with drugs" after selling King the heroin. (He had earlier been charged with involuntary manslaughter, corrupting another with drugs and drug trafficking.) Riffett was sentenced to five years of community control.
Chas Johnson was sentenced separately in January to four years in prison; he had pleaded guilty to selling the heroin to Riffett in the first place.
As the News-Herald reported earlier this year, Angelo Lonardo, who worked as Johnson's lawyer, noted that King had purchased the heroin "on a bench dedicated to his son’s memory."
