Dance at Mahall's Tonight and Help the Ohio Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild Defend Activists Who Might Be Arrested During the RNC

The Ohio Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild will be on the front lines of First Amendment protection during the Republican National Convention.

To do that, however, the NLG needs funds in order to do things like rent an office close to downtown to be near the action and help gather people who can step in and assist arrested protestors.

“We believe the protestors have a right to voice their dissent in a constitutionally protected manner, one free of law enforcement harassment and free of unreasonable restrictions on speech and assembly,” the NLG said on its website.

“We believe the right to voice dissent will not be tolerated by the City of Cleveland or the various federal law enforcement agencies tasked with providing security to a select few,” the group added.

The group has fallen short so far on its goal of raising $13,000 for that purpose so far.

“It is crucial that funding is received well in advance of the RNC so we can make sure the systems are functioning properly,” the group wrote on Facebook.

So tonight at Mahall’s in Lakewood, they're throwing a dance party and looking for some help. “Dance the RNC away” runs from 9:30 to 2 a.m. and you can get in for a donation of around $5. The event will feature DJs, other live music and dancing. If you're interested, the Facebook event page is right here.
