The Cuyahoga County’s Public Works Department department once again hosts a public tour of the Veteran’s Memorial Bridge and Subway station. Saturday, Aug. 19, tour participants get to venture underneath the 3112-foot bridge to one of Cleveland’s creepiest spots, something you can only do once a summer.
The tour begins on Superior Viaduct, the bridge’s official entrance. You already know about the Veterans Memorial Bridge's upper motorway, but the lower deck (read: dark, abandoned tunnel), which hasn't been of much use to anyone since 1954 when streetcars were discontinued, is what everyone has come to see. Films showing the history of the place will add to the eeriness of the destination as you walk along the self-guided tour.
The event is free, and goes from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. No reservations are required. 2433 Superior Viaduct, 216-348-3824, publicworks.cuyahogacounty.us
