I lived in Chicago for a number of years and will agree that it is WAY ahead of Cleveland in almost every aspect. I don't think people are delusional to that fact that we aren't NYC or Chicago (or even Columbus for that matter). The issue is that when things are done to try to improve the city, the people here that have lived here their whole lives are SOOOO against it. Bird Scooters, new stadiums, apartment complexes, etc, etc ,etc....there is always negativity towards it. Just yesterday I read an article about a new apartment/luxury hotel going in near the airport, and every single comment was negative. "It's gonna be too loud", "Loss of revenue to the city", "Frank Jackson sucks", blah blah blah.

Like I said, people complain when nothing is done, but complain just as much when anything is done, it's a never ending cycle.

It's funny how in this section it talks about how defenders of the land are the worst because it's a truth that "Cleveland isn't a good city", but in the same "Worst of" feature, they bash projects that are intended to make it a better city. Projects like the Q revitalization, the tax abatements to get people to move into the county, the healthline, etc. While I know a lot of our politicians are truly awful, it seems as if they're damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Scene is just as bad as a majority of the people who comment on here, I really think they don't want the city to thrive because, if it did, they'd have nothing to talk about.

This is absurd....I know that there are definitely safety concerns with these, but how come in much more populated cities like Nashville, Denver, and San Francisco, these are everywhere and the city has no issue. Are our politicians really that stubborn/backward thinking (Answer: Yes)? Is the $1 per scooter really a deal breaker? I've always hated that the majority of people that comment on here only have negative things to say, but I'm starting to understand why....we're holding ourselves back.

For once, lets think outside the box (even though these scooters barely qualify as that), and maybe we can take a step towards being a better city?

This is great news....Coastal Taco has arguably the best patio in the city, coupled with arguably the worst food/service in the city. We don't need anymore taco places, especially when the quality of the food isn't anywhere near Barrio or Bakersfield.

^Tend to disagree with this comment. Did you see Lyft and Uber's statistics about most dropped off places in Cleveland in the past year, basically every one of the top ten was in the flats. I think this area is thriving and will continue to do so, especially with all the new apartments opening up downtown...however, I wouldn't doubt if we start seeing some places close in areas like Ohio City/W. 6th/Tremont.

Great article. A lot of the points are so true. I'm a born and raised Clevelander and live here now, but I lived in Chicago for a number of years and have traveled all over the country and it's so frustrating to see what Cleveland is compared to what it could be. (Geographically, Cleveland and Chicago are IDENTICAL) Like the article said, cost of living is insanely low, traffic is nonexistent, we have great restaurants and attractions...I get it the weather sucks, but the weather is as bad, if not worse in TONS of other more prosperous, more populated cities.

When the RNC was in town a few years ago, I volunteered at some of the hotels housing delegates and it was crazy the reactions people had: "When we heard this was in Cleveland we almost didn't come because we heard the city was such a piece of S**T, but now that we're here, we love it" ....that was an exact quote I heard from New York delegates and I also heard many other, similar, less brash, statements as well. I can't tell you how many people I've had visit from out of town that have had similar sentiments.....WE give it a bad reputation, WE keep the city from prospering.

The best quote I've ever heard about Cleveland is this: "The people that hate the city of Cleveland and the state of Ohio are people that have never been here, or people that have never been anywhere else." The city badly needs change at the government level, I think we have some leaders in place, but it's going to take a lot more to truly turn this city around.
