A Sequel of Sorts

When: Thu., Feb. 26 2015
You might be familiar with Angels in America as the acclaimed HBO mini-series that premiered in 2003 and centered on the 1980s AIDS crisis. Thanks to its popularity, creator Tony Kushner is now one of the most widely respected playwrights on the planet. The sequel, Angels in America Part 1: Millennium Approaches, picks up where Angels in America left off, during Reagan’s second term while the epidemic rages on. The focus is on two couples — one gay, one straight — whose stories eventually become intertwined. The result is a work that the New York Times has called, “A vast and miraculous play ... provocative, witty and deeply upsetting.” Opening tonight on Playhouse Square, Angels in America Part 1: Millenium Approaches is presented by Cleveland State University’s department of theater and dance, and directed by Russ Broski. Tonight’s curtain is at 7:30; performances run through March 8 at the Outcalt Theater. Tickets are $10. (Siegel)
