A Stellar Showcase

When: Wed., Jan. 21 2015
The International Association of Blacks in Dance has existed for 27 years, but tonight will mark the first time that Northeast Ohio will get to see the nationwide gathering of dance troupes that participate in the annual showcase. The organization’s goal is a noble one: It “preserves and promotes dance by people of African ancestry or origin, and assists and increases opportunities for artists in networking, funding, performance, education, audience development, philosophical dialogue, touring and advocacy.” Things kick off with a free showcase tonight at 6:30 at the Cleveland Museum of Art. On Thursday, IABD Emerging Artist Youth Showcase takes place at 8 p.m. at the Ohio Theatre. The Members Showcase takes place Friday night at 7:30 at the same venue, and a Founders Showcase is slated for 8 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $25 to $50. (Niesel)
