Irish-born Garth Knox picked up the viola at an early age; his career began for real in the '80s when he started performing with a variety of groups in London including Pierre Boulez's Ensemble Intercontemperain, playing everything from baroque to contemporary music. For most of the '90s, he held down a gig with the hugely popular Arditti String Quartet but he successfully launched a solo career after leaving that group in 1998. He often plays with and without added electronics. He performs tonight with the accompaniment of Cleveland Orchestra double bassist Scott Dixon. The show starts at 7:30 at the Transformer Station. Tickets are $20. (Niesel)
