Abdou Mboup

When: Thu., Sept. 26, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $10
Born in a small town in Senegal, Abdou Mboup has spent his entire life as a musician. Decades ago, he was leading the movement to combine traditional music with more contemporary styles around his country. The efforts proved highly danceable, lending Mboup artistic credit across the continent and beyond. The aptly titled Senegal from 2012 gives listeners an up-close look at his journey thus far. The title track alone showcases the legacy of reeling in various strains of Senegalese music from across time. Mboup’s incredible percussion work is on display throughout the album, with noted highlights cropping up during “Brom Xam Xam,” especially. Tonight’s show promises an intimate evening of music with a musician who doesn’t often roll through the streets of Cleveland. (Sandy)
