Climb an Alaskan glacier, paraglide off Mount Everest, or cross the Carpathian Mountains in the footsteps of Genghis Kahn — all without ever leaving the comforts of C-town — in this year’s edition of the Banff Mountain Film Festival. The annual roundup of adventure films opens Friday April 13 at the Ohio Theatre on Playhouse Square with a 6 p.m. reception. (Fun fact: this is one of only two Ohio stops on the Canadian-based festival’s 30-country tour.) On the agenda: light apps, desserts, coffee, samples, prizes, adventure-sports exhibits, and a cash bar. You’ll also get to hobnob with filmmaker and cycling advocate Dan Austin, director of the 88bikes Foundation, which endows bikes to ashrams, orphanages, and village around the world. The films begin at 7:30; the eight short flicks range in length from four to 46 minutes. On Saturday, Austin will reprise his role as Guest of Honor during the 7 p.m. dessert reception.; an entirely new lineup of films screens at 8 p.m. Tickets are $32 for Friday and $27 for Saturday by phone or online.
