Comedian Paula Poundstone has been juggling her professional and personal careers more than usual lately. She has three kids in school, a semi-regular gig with NPRs news-heavy quiz show Wait, Wait . . . Dont Tell Me!, and not nearly enough time to bone up on current events. When I was growing up, any time something that sounded like the news [came on], I couldnt bear it, she says. So Poundstone records fact-filled TV programs (like PBS NewsHour With Jim Lehrer, a favorite) and watches them late at night, when the children cant bother me.
Onstage, Poundstone talks about everything from her home life to politics. Im not doing a tour that can be on the back of a sweatshirt, she says. Id like to because Id get a sweatshirt out of it.
