Talk about your non-traditional careers: Ohio-born Annie Oakley (1860-1926) not only was an accomplished sharpshooter and entertainer, she was probably the most famous woman of her day — and together with professional partner Buffalo Bill Cody, she was surely one of history's first international superstars! All this makes the diminutive Oakley — a.k.a. Little Miss Sure Shot — a great topic for tonight's Women's History Month program at the Independence branch of the Cleveland Public Library. The family program features history buff Linda Wilson, from the non-profit group Women in History, bringing Oakley's story to life, complete with a period costume and replicas of the shooter's many medals. (As the data-filled Wilson may tell you, the childless Oakley had her real medals melted down before her death, so the proceeds could be donated to orphanages.) The 7 p.m. program is free, but registration is required at 216-447-0160 or online at cuyahogalibrary.org. The library is at 6361 Selig Dr. in Independence. — Cicora
