And more local music news

Mr. Gnome have completed tracking their second album. The band recorded the bulk of it at L.A.'s Pink Duck studio with producer Justin Smith (QOTSA, Arctic Monkeys), who has (humorously, we think) dubbed singer Nicole Barille "the Enya of metal" and drummer Sam Meister "the Yanni of drums." The band added final touches at Cleveland's Ante Up. Mixing has been delayed, since the band accepted an invitation to play at Seattle's Georgetown Music Fest and booked a tour through the Southwest on the way home. Mr. Gnome play the Beachland Ballroom (15711 Waterloo Rd.) on Saturday. Barille says the set will be half new material, half songs from last year's debut, Deliver This Creature.

Bottom's Up (1572 W. 117th St., Lakewood) will host its first weekly Youth Gay Teen Night on Saturday. DJ Debi will spin dance music. Admission is limited to ages 13-17 from 7-11 p.m. Cover is $10.

(a.k.a. the Numbers Band) are a few steps closer to releasing their new album, which should arrive this fall, right before the group's 40th birthday next year. Pere Ubu's David Thomas produced. Guitarist Robert Kidney says the "really interesting" artwork by John Thompson is finished. (Thompson's retro/iconic work includes Ubu's Pennsylvania and The Shape of Things to Come.) The record hit a behind-the-scenes snag when Kidney had to establish a new name for his publishing company, which is now "The Brothers of Water Street Music." The veterans play the Parkview Tavern (1261 W. 58th St.) on Saturday.

Soulless is working on material for their next release. Bassist Dave "Big Metal" Johnson says the Parma hellions have demo'd five songs so far. Johnson is also playing drums in a deadly speed-doom side project, DeathCrawl, with Jason Luchka (These Graves) and Damon Gregg (Pistols at Dawn). DeathCrawl's debut, The End Is Not Near Enough, is out now. Take a listen at myspace.com/deathcrawlband.

Plague Crew's latest free monthly mixtape, Get Infected, is available for download at operationmars.com. The Cleveland hip-hop group includes DJ Majette, Arrogant, Ed Haze, Native and No-L.
